MCBP faculty Abigail Knight receives Sloan Fellowship

A total of 126 early-career researchers were awarded the fellowships, given to extraordinary U.S. and Canadian scientists whose creativity, innovation and research accomplishments make them stand out as the next generation of leaders. The new fellows, who were nominated by their peers, are drawn from a diverse range of 53 institutions across seven academic fields.

Klaus Hahn, PhD, the Ronald G. Thurman Distinguished Professor of Pharmacology and member of the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, will be co-leading a project titled, “Research Triangle: Revealing the Hidden Topologies of the Human Kinome” with Scott Soderling, PhD, a cell biologist at Duke University and Albert Keung, PhD, a chemical and biomolecular engineer at North Carolina State University.

Congratulations to Professor Gary Pielak, Claire Stewart, and Ashlee Propst for having their research highlighted on the May issue of Protein Science! Their paper, “Resolving the enthalpy of protein stabilization by macromolecular crowding“, explores a newly developed model of macromolecular crowding that indicated entropy disfavoring folding.

Gage O. Leighton received his PhD!

Gage O. Leighton successfully defended his PhD dissertation titled Probing the Importance of MBD2 in the Localization and Formation of the NuRD Complex on April 6th 2023. His thesis work was completed under the direction of Dr. David C. Williams Jr.

Dr. Odessa Goudy successfully defended her thesis, titled “Computational design of autoinhibitory domains for a protease-activated PD-L1 inhibitor” on Friday, February 17th. As a graduate student, Odessa was an active member of Brian Kuhlman’s lab and a student leader within the Biochemistry and Biophysics department.
